This is a unique vessel made out of Manzanita Burl (Arctostaphylos glauca) with Lanceolaria (Dalbergia lanceolaria) cap, Vermiculite Inlay.  Manzanita is a beautiful shrub with contorted, red bark branches that grows on the foot hills of California.  The wood is exceptionally fine grain but notoriously difficult to dry without checks or splits.  The burl is highly valued for it's beautiful grain and warm red color.  I have here a relatively solid Manzanita burl for this threaded vessel.  The natural voids and cracks were inlayed with the simmering vermiculite (yes, the stuff you andd to garden soil to loosen it up).  There are so many things going on visually for this vessel that you have to hold it in your hand, feel the cool and smooth surface, and turn it around to truly appreciate it all.  The threaded knob was made from a true and rare rosewood from South East Asia.  This is special!

A lidded box is nice, but a threaded box is something special. The screw-on cap ensures that your content is secured. It is a beautiful decorative item as well as functional, and is even large enough to serve as a small urn.
