This is a very pretty acorn shaped box made out of Bocote (Cordia elaeagnoides) with Tamboti (Spirostachys africanus) cap.  Bocote is a very eye-catching timber from Mexico.  The dark streaks on a yellow background can be very wild.  Tamboti, on the other hand, is a nice, uncomplicated brown timber from Africa with subtle figure.  Or so it seems.  Tamboti is also known as African sandalwood.  I did not detect much scent from the wood until one day the sun shined onto my display at a local art show and heat this nut up enough for it to release its aroma.  I don't recommend giving your acorn a sunbathing session, thou.
