This is a fun apple shaped container made out of African Padauk (Pterocarpus soyauxii) with Desert Ironwood (Olneya tesota) stem.  Once in a while, I got request for salt shaker, so I have been thinking about that.  Here is a new concept for a shaker that will work for any fruit with a small stem.  The bottom has a plastic plug for easy filling of the content.  The stem plugs up the container, so your salt stays dry, and ensures that the small hole does not get encrusted with salt.  It can be removed but tethered to the fruit with a leather cord so it can not be misplaced or lost.  Pull the stem up, shake out the salt (or whatever finely grounded spice), and plug it up again, the whole operation can be done with one hand.  This is a fun addition to a rustic kitchen!
