This is a unique footed bowl made out of Olive (Olea europaea) with Hawaiian Koa (Acacia koa) base. Olive is a tree of many religious, cultural and economic significants.  The leafy branches of olive are considered as a symbol of abundance, glory and peace. Olive oil also has been considered sacred and is till use in many religious ceremonies. The oil and fruit are important ingredients in many cuisines.  Olive is  the most mentioned tree in the Western sacred texts and literatures.  And the wood is one of my favorite with it's extra fine grain and beautiful figure. There is a crack across the top of the piece that I filled in with it's own wood shavings to preserve the character and to retain it's functionality as a vessel.
