This is a pretty slim threaded holder made out of Hawaiian Sandalwood (Santalum paniculatum) with Betelnut (Areca catechu) cap. Sandalwood is a parasitic small tree that establishes on the roots of host trees. The oil from the wood has a distinctive, pleasant scent that last. The very expensive oil is used for medicine, perfume, aromatherapy, and religious ceremonies. This particular species came from Hawaii and is one of the rarest. I am very happy to obtain a piece of this wood for my collection of aromatic timbers! This acorn is not seal on the inside for your sniffing pleasure. Betel nut is an important palm nut in India, SE Asia and Oceania cultures. It is chewed with betel leaves and lime for the mild stimulant effect; often offered as a sign of hospitality or friendship. The nut is also associated with legends and is a symbol for marital love. Betelnut is an eye-catcher in any design with it's striking pattern. It lent an exotic touch to this holder.
