This is a very pretty acorn shaped box made out of Curly Big Leaf Maple (Acer macrophyllum) with California Coast Live Oak (Quercus agrifolia) cap. This maple species is native to the Pacific Northwest. It has the distinction of having the largest leaf of the Maples-up to 15" in diameter. This is a soft Maple. The tree can produce many different types of figure, here it's a curly piece. Capped with another native species of oak,with elongated acorns like this one. The cap was made from a centered oak branch so the radial rays can be viewed all around. I like this one!
