The natural radial rays looks like gills of the mushroom on the underside of the cap!  The problem is oak logs tent to split right into the center pit when dried.  The larger the log, the more chance they would split open.   That's  why a large mushroom like this one is hard to come by.   Coast live oak is a California native species.  Walnut needs no introduction, it is a versatile domestic dark wood\u003cspan\u003e.
