This is a very pretty acorn shaped box made out of Verawood (Bulnesia sarmientoi) with Royal Palm (Roystonea regia) cap. I like to have an inventory of colorful items for my shop and nothing brighten up the lot better than the unusual, green tinted Verawood. A relative of Lignum Vitae, this timber is hard and heavy. The green color will deepen with time. This is one of a very few woods that gets greener as it ages! The cap is what makes this acorn even more special. Royal palm is a common ornamental palm, but the "wood" is seldom utilized. Due to it's porous, stringy nature, it is the most difficult thing to cut thread with. It took me 4x longer to carefully thread this cap than with another well behaved hardwood. However, the shimmering result is totally worth it. So, once in a while, when I feel up to the challenge....And this one is a true challenge, with a a larger diameter to deal with than my previous attempts.
