This is a mini pendant box made out of Amboyna Burl (Pterocarpus indicus) with Black Palm (Borassus flabellifer) cap. Amboyna is the official national tree of the Philippines, where it is now endangered. The tree itselff is called Narra, and so does the reddish wood. However, the burl of the Narra tree is called Amboyna, after the location the burl originated. It is one of the hard and heavy burl, ideal for cutting threads. The beautiful eyes and swirling grains are still well displayed this tiny item. Black Palm (or Palmyra palm), is the National Tree of Cambodia. The fibrous grain of this hard-to-turn woody palm yield striking visual effect. This palm species has small nuts with soft, translucent flesh, similar to a young coconut, an importance source of sugar production there.
This pretty pendant has a tiny secret compartment for very small daily pills or memorial keepsake. The screw-on cap ensures that your content is secured, yet can be easily accessed. If you want a permanent seal, apply a very small amount of wood glue to the thread before closing.
