This is a very pretty acorn shaped box made out of Sappanwood (Caesalpina sappan) with Burmese Blackwood (Dalbergia cultrata) cap. Related to Brazilian Pernambuco, Asian Sappanwood was a once popular export wood in the 17th century, but seldom seen now-a-days. The wood has many uses, beside being a lustrous timber with red orange hue. It possesses antibacterial and anticoagulant properties for medicinal application. It also produces a reddish dye called brazilin, used for dyeing fabric and making red paints and inks. The tree is also a beautiful ornamental with panicles of yelllow flowers. The piece used for this acorn has very nice figures. Burmese blackwood is also known as Khamphi Rosewood, and Malaysian Rosewood, a dark, true rosewood species with interesting grain pattern. Orange and black are my high school colors, not just for Halloween.
A nice box for your valuables. The screw-on cap makes this nature inspired box extra special and ensures that your content is secured, good for daily pills, cash stash, keepsake... Through the ages, people has given out acorns as a symbol of prosperity and luck. This one is a unique gift.
