This is a beautiful flat threaded holder made out of Mun Ebony (Diospyros mun) with Olive Burl (Olea europaea) cap. Mun Ebony is one of the most beautiful ebony around, often decorated with wild streaks and figures. The wood is very fine grain and stable, ideal for threaded items. It is my favorite material for flat boxes. The dark bottom goes well with any other wood color, it also provide accent and contrast. Here, Mun was paired with equally fine grained Olive cap. Olive is a tree of many religious, cultural and economic significants. The leafy branches of olive are considered as a symbol of abundance, glory and peace. Olive oil also has been considered sacred and is till use in many religious ceremonies. The oil and fruit are important ingredients in many cuisines. Olive is the most mentioned tree in the Western sacred texts and literatures. And the wood is one of my favorite with it's extra fine grain and beautiful figure.

The all-wood threaded box is a rare commodity. The screw-on cap is what make this box extra special. It can be used to hold pills and small valuables...The flat profile fits unobtrusively in a purse or pocket for people on the go, and the screw cap ensures that your content is secured. I don't make flat boxes very often. Since there is very little space to maneuver the threaded cap, flat boxes require very careful matching of the threads for a smooth, spin-on/spin-off operation.
