This is a very pretty acorn shaped box made out of Giant Sequoia (Sequoiadendron giganteum) with Coast Live Oak cap. True to it's name, Giant Sequoias are the mammoth of the tree kingdom. The species holds the record of world's largest tree and is also among the oldest living things on Earth. It is a California native and is the only species in it's genus. The wood is rarely seen because it's not a commercial timber due to the fact that wood from matured tree is too brittle for construction. I found that fact interesting since the timber comes from the largest tree. This acorn was made from a piece of old growth heartwood, with it's characeristic redddish color. It is very light, but tight grain enough for a satiny finish. According to the source: "This tree has a special energy to it. Since it began growing in 700B.C. is rare and especially beautiful when finished". So, how did I get a hold of such interesting piece of wood? Find out the story at http://www.thegiantsequoia.com. The cap is also a California native Live Oak. This a corn is truly a precious gift from my home state.
A nice box for your valuables. The screw-on cap makes this nature inspired box extra special and ensures that your content is secured, good for jewelry, keepsake... Through the ages, people has given out acorns as symbol of prosperity and luck. This one is a unique gift.
