This is a very pretty acorn shaped box made out of American Holly (Ilex opaca) with Betelnut (Areca catechu) cap. I like to experiment with palm nuts, specially those with the beautiful pattern. These natural materials are hard and dense, often referred to as vegetable ivory due to the similarity in properties. Only here in my shop, you can find several species of these nuts transform into threaded caps: acorn cap, box cap, and mushroom cap. This acorn was made from the well known Betelnut. Betel nut is an important palm nut in SE Asia and Oceania cultures. It is chewed with betel leaves and lime for the mild stimulant effect; often offered as a sign of hospitality or friendship. The nut is also associated with legends and is a symbol for marital love. Holly, the whitest wood, makes this acorn the brightest one around.
A nice box for your valuables. The screw-on cap makes this nature inspired box extra special and ensures that your content is secured. Good for small daily pills, keepsake... Not recommended for long term storage of emergency pill, since I don't know how air/water tight the closure is. Through the ages, people has given out acorns as a symbol of prosperity and luck. This one is a unique gift.
