This is a very pretty acorn shaped box made out of Virginia Ironwood Burl (Ostrya virginiana) with Arizona Desert Ironwood (Olneya tesota) cap. There are a few species of American ironwoods, The one from Arizona desert is most well known. Here is another one from Eastern state, also known as eastern hophornbeam, this is another very hard and heavy wood that can sport wild grains. Here is the very rare burl form of this species. Both wood have very pretty shimmering grains and polished up to a silky smooth feel. A tough and beautiful acorn!
