This is a very pretty acorn shaped box made out of American Holly (Illex opaca) with Ambrosia Red Maple (Acer rubrum) cap. Official State Tree of Delaware, Holly is widely used as ornamental plants in gardens and parks. The glossy leaves and bright red fruits are popular Christmas and Holidays Season decoration. Holly symbolized truth, renewal, immortality and rejuvenation, among other good things. The wood of Holly is one of the whitest, with very fine grain for a smooth finish. Ancient Romans believed holly could repel natural disasters, dark magic and even dangerous animals. Druids believed that holly offered protection against evil spirits. In Great Britain, Holly represent masculine power...Looks like this species receives a lot of attention thoughout the ages. Red maple is the State Tree of Rhode Island and is best known for it's brilliant scarlet foliage in autumn. Considered a soft maple, the wood is nevetherless fine grain. This acorn cap was turned cross-grain to show off the beautiful ambrosia markings, completed with the beetle hole. The bluish stain from the ambrosia echos that of the blue stained Holly. I like this one!
A nice box for your valuables. The screw-on cap makes this nature inspired box extra special and ensures that your content is secured, good for jewelry, keepsake... Through the ages, people has given out acorns as a symbol of prosperity and luck. This one is a unique gift.
