This is a very pretty acorn shaped box made out of Pernambuco (Caesalpinia echinata) with Brazillian Rosewood (Dalbergia negra) cap. Also known as Brazilwood, it's the tree that give rise to the country of Brazil. This is the only instance when a country was named after a tree. Pernambuco is the wood of choice for violin bows. The dense, orange-red heartwood takes a high shine. The wood also yields a red dye called brazilin. This species is now endangered and the trade of Pernambuco is likely to be banned in the immediate future. Capped with the true Brazillian rosewood. Considered commercially extint, this once favorite timber for musical instrument is a rare find. This acorn show cases two precious timbers from Brazil. USA orders ony, can't ship this overseas due to some new restrictions with the Brazilian Rosewood that I don't quite know for sure.
