This is a very pretty acorn shaped box made out of Incense Cedar Burl (Calocedrus decurrens) with Chechen (Metopium brownei) cap.  This is a rarely seen burly form of incense cedar.  California grown, this conifer species is wide spread in the Western North America.  Woodworker or not, you perhap had turned this wood without knowing:  it's the most common timber for the production of wooden pencils, so if you have ever sharpen a pencil...The burl has interesting broken and confused growth rings.  It polishes up and accept threading very well for a conifer.  Capped with a brown wood from South America for contrast and added visual interest.
