This is a mini acorn box made out of American Holly (Illex opaca) with Raffia Palm Nut (Rhaphia australis) cap.  Holly is the whitest commercial wood.  It is the tree with red berries for holiday decoration.  American holly is the state tree of Delaware.  To ontain the whitest timber, the tree should be cut at night during a certain phase of the moon to minimize the amount of sap content within the wood and then dried carefully, so they said.  The Raphia nut, with it's random spots, makes a great acorn cap.  Raphias are monster palms, with leaves up to 82 feet long! The longest leaves in the plant kingdom.  This nut came from a tree that was already death, since Raphia species only bloom once then the whole tree, or the flowering trunk, would die from the effort.  One would expect such giants to be more virile. Weird thing.  This is one acorn with a bright, stylish look.
