This is a pretty slim threaded holder made out of Box Elder Burl (Acer negudo) with Desert Ironwood (Olneya tesota) cap.  Box Elder is a species of maple native to North America.  The wood is fine grain, but relatively plain.  An interesting fact about this wood is when injured, the wood reacts by developing a brillian red stains, called red flame.  Another great feature of this species is the burl.  This particular piece was made from a high grade burl, choke full of eyes and swirly grains for your visual exploration.  Capped with shimmering Desert Ironwood, this is a real handsome holder.
