This is a very special acorn shaped box made out of Hawaii Sandalwood (Santalum paniculatum) with Red Palm (Cocos nucifera) cap.  This is the true Sandalwood with it's persistent aroma.  Sandalwood is a parasitic small tree that establishes on the roots of host trees. The oil from the wood has a distinctive, pleasant scent. The aromatic oil from the wood is also used for medicine and perfume.  This is a super rare species that I was fortunate to obtain a small block.  The inside of this holder was not sealed with a finish for your sniffing pleasure.  Capped with Red Palm, or coconut palm, another iconic image of Hawaii, for contrast.  Unlike Sandalwood, coconut palm is abundant.  The problem for me is that this grass (yes, palms belong to the grass family) is even harder to thread than black palm, so i don't use it as often.  Here is an acorn made in the Paradise state.
