This is a very pretty acorn shaped box made out of Flamed Box Elder (Acer negudo) with Mun Ebony(Diospyros mun) cap. Box Elder is a species of maple native to North America. The wood is fine grain, but relatively plain. An interesting fact about this wood is when injured, the wood reacts by developing a brillian red stain, as seen in this large acorn. Such a beautiful natural red flames in this piece of Box Elder! The best example I have ever came across. Tis acorn was turned cross-rain. Capped with a nice figured Mun Ebony for constrast.
