This is a very special mushroom shaped box made out of American Holly (Illex opaca) with Flamed Box Elder (Acer negudo) cap.  Here is a new species of mushroom.  While the other ones looks delicious enough to eat.  This one is definitely a poisonous thing  with that warning red cap. I was lucky to obtain an incredible piece of flamed box elder and thought of a mushroom... Box Elder is a species of maple native to North America.  The wood is fine grain, but relatively plain.  An interesting fact about this wood is when injured, the wood reacts by developing a brilliant red stain. The stalk is American Holly.  This eye-catching, exotic looking mushroom is truly a native species!
