This is a very special mushroom shaped box made out of Red Oak (Quercus rubra) cap with Persimmon (Diospyros virginiana) stalk. It's mushroom season here now. This one is the larger one I managed to grow from my lathe. It's difficult to find such a big oak branch that can be dried with no splitting. I like oak for mushroom cap. The radial rays of oak mimics the gills of the mushroom perfectly. The stalk is made from Persimmon wood, a true ebony species. This is one king-size saprophyte!
