This is a very pretty acorn shaped box made out of Black Walnut Burl (Juglans negra) with Chechen (Metopium brownei) cap. Black Walnut needs no introduction. It is the most popular dark wood of the temperate zone. Its timber is valued for fine furnitures, musical instrument, gun stocks, wood floors, amongs others. Here, I have a very nice walnut burl, loaded with figures and eyes. Burls of this caliper are often sliced into thin veneers. Chechen is also known as Caribbean Rosewood for it's density and lustrous grain. This is one nice acorn!
