This is a very pretty acorn shaped box made out of Virginia Ironwood (Ostrya virginiana) with Black Walnut (Juglans negra) cap. There are a few species of American ironwoods, The one from Arizona desert is most well known. Here is another one from Eastern state, also known as eastern hophornbeam, this is another very hard and heavy wood that can sport wild grains. Here is the very figured form of this species. This wood have very pretty grains and polished up to a silky smooth feel.  Capped with the domestic black walnut for contrast.
