This is a very pretty acorn shaped box made out of Mun Ebony (Diospyros mun) with Betelnut (Areca catechu) cap. Mun Ebony is my favorite ebony species for several reasons: the wood is very fine and easy to work with, the patterns can be very striking and a hint of green tint make this ebony special, the wood is very stable, dimensionally. What's more, it was the reason why I became a woodturner: All I wanted was a couple of Mun Ebony chopsticks, which we used to have back when I was a kid. Found none, so I set out to make a few for myself. I never expected the chopsticks to morph into so many different shapes and sizes! Betel Nut also hold good memories. It has an important role in many SE Asian cultures.
A nice box for your valuables. The screw-on cap makes this nature inspired box extra special and ensures that your content is secured. Good for small daily pills, keepsake... Not recommended for long term storage of emergency pill, since I don't know how air/water tight the closure is. Through the ages, people has given out acorns as a symbol of prosperity and luck. This one is a unique gift.
