This is a very pretty acorn shaped box made out of Iliahi Sandalwood (Santalum ellipticum) with Black Palm (Borassus flabellifer) cap. Sandalwood is a parasitic small tree that establishes on the roots of host trees. The oil from the wood has a distinctive, pleasant scent that last. The very expensive oil is used for medicine, perfume, aromatherapy, and religious ceremonies.  This particular species came from Hawaii and is one of the rarest and a true sandalwood in the Santalum genus. I am very happy to obtain a piece of this wood for my collection. The Black Palm has just the right pattern and dark color to add contrast and visual complexity to the elusive Sandalwood.
