This is a very pretty acorn shaped box made out of Tulipwood (Dalbergia decipularis) with Burmese Blackwood (Dalbergia cultrata) cap. Tulipwood is a true rosewood species native to the tropical region of South America, mainly Brazil. It is a fine textured, hard and heavy wood that polishes up nicely. Tulipwood has irregular streaks of yellow, rose and red or violet on a cream to straw colored background. It is one of the most vibrant of the rosewoods. Capped with another dark true rosewood from SE Asia with subtle but interesting grain and color.  Here you have two true rosewoods with no "rosewood" their names.  I can see why the cap timber is called black wood, but Tulipwood? No idea.
