This is a mini acorn pendant box made out of Desert Ironwood (Olneya tesota) with Lignum Vitae (Guiacum officinale) cap. Genuine Lignum Vitae is quite famous for being "the densest wood in the world". The wood is also believed to have medicinal properties in its resins and chips; "Lignum Vitae" is Latin for "Wood of Life." True Lignum is now rare and expensive. I recently obtained Desert Ironwood and was surprised to see how dense it is. With a hardness comparable to Lignum, this wood live up to it's "ironwood" epithet. I particularly like this combination of timbers.
This pretty pendant has a tiny secret compartment for very small daily pills or memorial keepsake. The screw-on cap ensures that your content is secured, yet can be easily accessed. If you want a permanent seal, apply a very small amount of wood glue to the thread before closing.
Dimension (largest diameter x height): 5/8" x 1"
-- All wood items were hand turned and/or hand threaded on a lathe. Hardwood threaded inserts were used for woods that do not accept threading well
-- The item was sanded to 1200 grid for a mirror finish and sealed with a food-safe varnish, if applicable. For hard, fine grained wood with a natural shine, only wax and oil were applied
