This is a beautiful lidded vessel made out of Cotoneaster Burl (Cotoneaster sp.) with Black Chacate (Guibourtia conjugata) cap. I got this root burl from an art show patron who had saved it from the old shrub that used to grace his front yard. I can imaging how pretty it was, loaded with red berries each season. This is the first time I encountered this burl wood--what a lustrous and beautiful thing! It is very solid for a burl, perfect for a threaded vessel, to best show case the gorgeous swirls, voids, inclusions... The dark wood plug serves as a pedestal for a small sphere of cottoneaster burl. This is surely a one of a kind vessel from a rare burl.
