This is a very pretty acorn shaped box made out of Lignum Vitae (Guiacum officinale) with Black Palm (Borassus flabellifer) cap. Genuine Lignum Vitae is quite famous for being "the densest wood in the world". The wood is also believed to have medicinal properties in its resins and chips; "Lignum Vitae" is Latin for "Wood of Life." Official National Flower of Jamaica, the timber is now rare and expensive. What's more, it can eventually develop a dark green patina, one of a very few woods that just gets greener as it aged! Capped with Black Palm for the interesting polka dot pattern. This acorn shape is more common seen back East.
