This is an eggplant shape box made out of Blue Mahoe (Hibiscus elata) with Verawood (Bulnesia sarmientoi) cap. Blue Mahoe is Jamaica's national tree. A rare timber, it is one of the wood with unique purplish-blue color and nice, subtle sheen that is very difficult to photograph. I cut this eggplant cross-grain to display the multicolor gradation of the timber. It was a rather difficult operation since this wood is prone to tear out. Definitely worth the trouble! Just look at it! Verawood is another unusual wood which turns green upon exposure, a nice color combination just for an eggplant! This is nice!
