This is a very special mushroom shaped box made out of Coast Live Oak (Quercus agrifolia) cap & Teak (Tectona grandis) stalk.  It's mushroom season here now.  I hunkered down and make a few of these cuties from dried branches salvaged from tree trimming around my neighborhood.  I like oak for mushroom cap.  The natural radial rays looks like gills of the mushroom, so don't forget to admire the underside of the mushroom cap.  

 Teak is the number one timber for marine and outdoor furniture applications. it's natural oils make the timber moisture, termite and pest resistant. Teak is durable even when not treated with oil or varnish. Native to SE Asia, it is a large tree with fairly large leaves. There was a stand of teak near my childhood house. I remember cranking my neck looking up at these tall canopies and got intrigued by these large leaves. I did not know they are teak until recently, by reading posts on a forum about the very same stand of teak. How connected the world has become! This mushroom is even more special, fashioned out of the rare burl of this timber. The dense pattern is just perfect for small item like this mushroom.
