This is a very pretty acorn shaped box made out ofBlack Cherry Burl (Prunus serotina) with Lanceolaria (Dalbergia lanceolaria cap.  Black Cherry burl is a domestic beauty.  The tree is native to Northeastern US.  The timber is valuable as cabinet material, the familiar dark red "Cherry".  Fruit is good for jam and pies.  This is the burl that you see here.  Incredibly dense with figure and eyes. Capped with a rarely seen true rosewood from Asia, this acorn is a keeper!
