This is a very pretty acorn shaped box made out of Sappanwood (Caesalpina sappan) with Coast Live Oak (Quercus agrifolia) cap. Related to Brazilian Pernambuco, Asian Sappanwood was a once popular export wood in the 17th century, but seldom seen now-a-days. The wood has many uses, beside being a lustrous timber with red orange hue. It possesses antibacterial and anticoagulant properties for medicinal application. It also produces a reddish dye called brazilin, used for dyeing fabric and making red paints and inks. The tree is also a beautiful ornamental with panicles of yellow flowers. Capped with a centered branch of California live oak, the radial rays of the oak add visual interest to this bright acorn
