This is a very pretty acorn shaped box made out of Indian Banyan (Ficus benghalensis) with Red Palm (Cocos nucifera) cap. From SE Asia, these are timbers of spiritual and secular important. Banyan is the national tree of India and Bangladesh. Considered the tree of immortality, the sacred Banyan has important cultural and religious roles in many SE Asian traditions. Lord Buddha is believed to have sat under a Banyan tree for seven days after attaining his enlightenment. On the practical side, Red Palm, or the common Coconut, is a species of great economic important for the region. All parts of the tree can be utilized for this and that. I, in particular, like the fresh juice from young nuts and hard wood from old trees. BTW, climbing a coconut tree is really a great recreational activity. Chicka Chicka Boom Boom...
