This is a very pretty acorn shaped box made out of Staghorn Sumac (Rhus typhina) with Verawood (Bulnesia sarmientoi) cap. An ornamental tree native to Eastern North America, Staghorn Sumac is another wood (beside Lignum Vitae and Verawood) that possess a green color, and more. Looking at this cross cut acorn, I can see many shades of green... and yellow... and red... The wood is porous so I had to spend a long time stabilizing and sanding before it became this shimmering rainbow. Staghorn sumac is a source of a natural dye and the wood also fluorescent under black light! What a fun and unique thing! And, of course, it have to pair with the green Verawood. If you believe in "Go Green", this is it.
This is a nice box for your valuables. The screw-on cap makes this box extra special and ensures that your content is secured, good for jewelry, keepsake... Thought the ages, people has given out acorns as a symbol of prosperity and luck. This one is a unique gift for the "hard to give" people on your list!
