This is a mini pendant box made out of Irish Bog Oak (Quercus robur) with Verawood (Bulnesia sarmientoi) cap. A symbol of strength and endurance, Oak serves as National Tree for many different countries, USA included. For those who are not familiar with the bog oak, this piece of wood is more than several thousand years old. Oak trees fell into ancient bogs and was buried and preserved. The black coloration is the result of such submersion under a specific condition. This particular piece has not turned completely black, with beautiful color streaks. Needless to say, this one is rare. Bog wood is a rather soft and barely suitable for threading, but I managed, with the aid of wood hardener. On the other hand, Verawood is one of the hardest timber in the world, with an interesting green tint. The simple vial-type compartment was accented with hand turned ebony beads. The silver and green Aventurine add color and sparkle to the design. Comes ready to wear with a 18" waxed cotton cord. I really like the way this turned out!
This pretty pendant has a tiny secret compartment (~ the size of a pencil eraser) for very small daily pills or memorial keepsake. The screw-on cap ensures that your content is secured, yet can be easily accessed. If you want a permanent seal, apply a very small amount of wood glue to the thread before closing.
