This is a nice mini acorn box made out of Gingko (Gingko biloba) with Burr Oak (Quercus macrocarpa) cap. Ginkgo, also known as Maidenhair tree, is one of a few "living fossil"--organism that lived during ancient times and still survives on earth today. It is also a unique species, without any living relatives. Perhaps, you have heard of this species as herbal extract (supposed to be good for the brain). Perhaps, you have eaten the nuts in some of the Asian dishes, or came across the tree... This tree can not be missed in autumn, when the leaves turn a uniform, brilliant yellow. There is a huge Gingko on the ground of my Alma Master. I used to just sit on the lawn and admired the fluttering yellow from above and the carpet of yellow below. Lucky for us students, that tree is a male. If it were a fertile, fruit-bearing female, we wouldn't be able to come close because the stench of falling ripe fruit, but that's another story. Now this is the chance for you to meet Gingko wood. It is a rather soft wood, usually plain, but I was lucky to obtain a blank with suble multi-color stain. The Burr Oak cap adds visual interest with it's interesting ray pattern. I like this one!
A beautiful and unique box for your keepsake, this acorn is great for small daily pills, keepsake, jewelry or any small things you want to have access on the go. The screw-on cap ensures that your content is secured. It is also a unique gift since acorn is a symbol of good luck and prosperity.
