This is a very pretty acorn shaped box made out of French Boxwood (Buxus sempervirens) with Raphia Palm nut (Raphia farinifera) cap. Boxwood is a hard and heavy wood from a slow growing, small shrub, a very popular ornamental plant in gardens, particularly for topiary and hedges. I saw beautiful boxwood grown as pattern hedges and labyrinths in many formal gardens in Europe and always wonder how they keep the shrub from becoming leggy through all these years. It is the densest wood that the entire European continent has to offer. The wood is often used to make woodwind instrument, chess pieces, engraving and as ivory substitute due to its extremely fine grain. Also my favorite wood for turning. This particular piece also has striking color stains instead of the normal uniform yellow. Partner with the polka dot palm nut cap, this acorn is a real beauty!
A nice box for your valuables. The screw-on cap makes this nature inspired box extra special and ensures that your content is secured, good for daily pills, cash stash, keepsake... Through the ages, people has given out acorns as a symbol of prosperity and luck. This one is a unique gift.
