This is a very special mushroom shaped box made out of Glossy Privet (Ligustrum lucidum) with Coast Live Oak (Quercus agrifolia) cap. Privet is a popular hedge tree around here. The tree remains nice, dark green year round, drought tolerant and easy to please. The same can be said for the coast live oak, popular as street trees. Mushrooms, too, not green, but are very drought tolerant. They lie dormant, waiting for water, then pop up everywhere. California drought is still on going, butmushrooms are mushrooming in my shop. This is one of the larger size, another fun mushroom from a piece of oak branch. The cap is fashioned out of a centered oak branch so the radial rays distribute themselves all around, like the gills of a mushroom. The cap rim was decorated with a ring of natural bark for a striking visual effect. The light color privet serves perfectly as the mushroom body.
