This is a very pretty acorn shaped box made out of Ohia-Lehua (Metrosideros polymorpha) with Macadamia (Macadamia integrifolia) cap. Ohia Lehua is a tree associated with Hawaiian legend concerning a pair of lovers and a jealous, bullying Goddess. I love gnarly trees so Ohia still looks smashingly handsome to me in his tree form. A stand of Ohia Lehue in full bloom is a magnificent sight. It is a tough species, often the first to take root on new lava fields. The wood has an interesting purplish hue with subtle color streaks, hard, heavy and polished up nicely. The cross-cut Macadamia nut cap adds visual interest with its pattern. I like this combination of wood: they looks like they belongs to each other, like the Lehua flower on the Ohia tree.
A nice box for your valuables. The screw-on cap makes this nature inspired box extra special and ensures that your content is secured, good for jewelry, keepsake... Through the ages, people has given out acorns as a symbol of prosperity and luck. This one is a unique gift.
