This is a very pretty acorn shaped box made out of Amboyna Burl (Pterocarpus indicus) with Desert Ironwood (Olneya tesota) cap. Pterocarpus indicus is still considered the official national tree of the Philippines, where it is now endangered. The tree itselff is called Narra, and so does the reddish wood. However, the burl of the Narra tree is called Amboyna. Go figure. The beautiful burl ranges from golden yellow to deep red, highly figured, and polishes up nicely. It better be pretty to justify the high price tag associated with this burl wood. Here Iuse a gallery grade piece for this small acorn, dense with eyes and swirls. Desert Ironwood is probably the nicest looking wood from North America, very hard, heavy, polished up to a glassy finish and the swirly grain shimmers like gold. The American Indian believes that the wood will bring luck and good health to the people who carries it.
A nice box for your valuables. The screw-on cap makes this nature inspired box extra special and ensures that your content is secured, good for daily pills, cash stash, keepsake... Through the ages, people has given out acorns as a symbol of prosperity and luck. This one is a unique gift.
