This is a very pretty acorn shaped box made out of Quaking Aspen (Populus tremuloides) with Burr Oak (Quercus macrocarpa) cap. Quaking Aspen is an interesting N. American native. The tree has leaves with flexible, long petioles that cause the leaves to tremble with the slightest breeze, hence the name. It is, perhaps, the most photogenic species around: leaves turn brilliant yellow in the autumn, the ghostly white trunks and bare branches look spectacular in winter. The species tends to grow in groves and sprout new trees from their root system, forming massive clone. The Trembling Giant, one of such clone forms massive colony of a single quaking aspen trees spread over more than 100 acres in Utah, sharing a giant underground root system. It's estimated that this gigantic clone is at least 10,000 years old and collectively weighs 6,615 tons, making it the heaviest living organism on the planet. Interesting! The wood of this species is often plain, but this particular old growth specimen I incured has developed incredible natural stains, making it a rare find. Paired with Bur oak, another North American species with the largest acorn around. This simple looking acorn is actually full of superlatives!
A nice box for your valuables. The screw-on cap makes this nature inspired box extra special and ensures that your content is secured, good for jewelry, keepsake... Through the ages, people has given out acorns as symbol of prosperity and luck. This one is a unique gift.
