This is a very pretty acorn shaped box made out of California Buckeye Burl (Aesculus californica) with Black Palm (Borassus flabellifer) cap. The bluish stain Buckeye burl is something very special. It is one of the few wood that exhibit this kind of color, add the wild pattern and it is truly unique. This item is fashioned out of a very nice piece of burl with lots swirl and eyes. Couple with the beautifully Black Palm (or Palmyra palm), National Tree of Cambodia, for a striking visual effect. This palm species yields small nuts with soft, translucent flesh, similar to a young coconut, an importance source of sugar production there. The wood tents to splinter and is difficult to thread, but the resulting acorn cap is always so striking, it worths the effort. This wood combination is my favorite for acorn. I have made a few of this style and always impressed to see how pretty they are!
A nice box for your valuables. The screw-on cap ensures that your content is secured, good for jewelry, keepsake... Through the ages, people has given out acorns as a symbol of prosperity and luck. This one is a unique gift.
