This is a very pretty acorn shaped box made out of Siamese Rosewood (Dalbergia cochinchinensis) & Tambooti (Spirostachys africanus) cap. A true rosewood from SE Asia, this species is not often available. It has similar color and feel as Cocobolo but not that oily. It is the first rosewood that I know, growing up (Trac is the local name). The beautiful reddish wood is used for household items, high-end furnitures and fine woodworks. In recent years, the demand for this timber just gone sky rockets due to the rise of the elitist class in China. The species is an ongoing subject of armed poaching and illigal trading.througout it's range. It was added to the protected list of timbers last year. I dearly hope that the legal protection will save this timber from commercial extinction. The pattern on this nut almost match that of the Tambooti cap.
A nice box for your valuables. The screw-on cap makes this nature inspired box extra special and ensures that your content is secured, good for jewelry, keepsake... Through the ages, people has given out acorns as a symbol of prosperity and luck. This one is a unique gift.
