This is a very pretty acorn shaped box made out of Buckeye Burl (Aesculus californica) with Black Palm (Borassus flabellifer) cap. Buckeye is one of my favorite species around here: beautiful leaves, massive flower heads, picturesque form, interesting fruit and bluish burl wood that looks like none other! These trees look most interesting right now, when the fruits are dangling from the naked branches. The bluish stain Buckeye burl is something very special. It is one of the few wood that exhibit this kind of color, add the wild pattern and it is truly unique. Black Palm actually belongs to the grass family instead of true hardwood. It has the “bundle of fiber” structure that makes it so difficult to work. Threading is also difficult as this wood tends to spinter. However, I really like the polkadot and treak pattern that simulate the acorn cap like no other wood that I keep getting back to this species. Isn't this acorn something special?
A nice box for your valuables. The screw-on cap makes this nature inspired box extra special and ensures that your content is secured, good for jewelry, keepsake... Through the ages, people has given out acorns as a symbol of prosperity and luck. This one is a unique gift.
