This is a very pretty acorn shaped box made out of African Rosewood (Guibourtia tessmannii) with African Blackwood (Dalbergia melanoxylon) cap. Also called Bubinga, this rosewood is not a true rosewood species, but is a nice timber all by itself. This piece has an interesting polka dot figure and wavy grain. I turned this acorn cross-grain to show off it's features. African Blackwood, on the other hand, is a true rosewood, and also true to it's name, being deep black. It is a very hard and heavy good, just great for turning. The grain is so fine, I feel like I was turning a piece of black plastic! Here you have it: two top notch timbers from Africa.
A nice box for your valuables. The screw-on cap makes this nature inspired box extra special and ensures that your content is secured, good for jewelry, keepsake... Through the ages, people has given out acorns as a symbol of prosperity and luck. This one is a unique gift.
