This is a very pretty acorn shaped box made out of Fruitless Mulberry (Morus alba) with Black Walnut (Juglans negra) cap. Mulberry is an important family of trees due to the silkworm industry, the precursor for all of your silky attires and accessories. My daughter brought home a few silkworms to raise as a class science project. For the first time, I witnessed how ravenously the worms consumed mulberry leaves and formed their silky cocoons. It was an intriguing experience, albeit a bit creepy. The mulberry tree itself is interesting. New branches were trimmed back each year to the few main swollen stumps, creating an interesting, unique look. There were walkways lined on both side with mulberry trees at my Alma Master. In the Fall, the leaves turned a brilliant yellow color. Every time I walked by, I reminded myself to take a picture, but never had the time because of all those exams before the Holidays breaks. I did not have the photo-ready, smart phone back then, but the picture in my mind is vivid enough--that should do. Capped with Black Walnut, another very useful species for it nut and timber.
