This is a very pretty acorn shaped box made out of Purpleheart (Peltogyne paniculata) with Guatemalan Mora (Morus tinctoria) cap. True ot it's name, Purpleheart is a special wood that quickly turns purple after exposure. The color will deepen with time. I like this wood very much for it's bright and unusual color. The wood is hard and heavy, polishes up to a nice silky finish. Capped with Mora, a nice dark wood with shimmering grain. This cap broke off the lathe while I was working with it. I looked at the slanted stem and like it very much. So, I hand sanded the stem and leave it with an unsymetrical angle for a more natural look. This acorn has a friction fitted cap. It is sized so that the cap stays on when pressed close, and can be twisted or pushed off.
